Erick van Ginkel

Eric van Ginkel is dedicated to serving as an independent arbitrator or mediator of complex international and domestic business disputes. 


As both a civil and common law trained attorney (Leiden, Columbia, Pepperdine), Eric practiced law with Cleary Gottlieb, Van Ginkel & Benjamin, Alschuler Grossman & Pines and Hughes Hubbard, handling both complex international transactions and litigation.  In addition, he was in-house counsel for a small entertainment company (General Counsel), a major toy company (VP and Assistant General Counsel – Europe) and a major private holding company of a variety of manufacturing companies over a ten-year period (Assistant General Counsel).  Eric established his own practice as a neutral in 2006.  


He is a frequent lecturer and writer on international dispute resolution, and has taught dispute resolution at the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution as well as the Law School of the University of Texas at Austin.  


With offices in Austin, Texas, and Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Eric is available to serve as sole arbitrator or on a panel of arbitrators in the Americas, Asia and Europe, both in person and virtually.

Eric is an experienced arbitrator, having sat both as Sole Arbitrator and Chair or Co-Arbitrator of a

3-member Tribunal, in more than

70 cases –  both international and

US-domestic arbitrations.


Eric has successfully mediated more than 375 disputes and has a settlement rate greater than 90%.


In addition to his work as an Adjunct Professor at the Law School of the University of Texas at Austin and the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Caruso School of Law at Pepperdine University, Eric regularly speaks on topics of Alternative Dispute Resolution, including Arbitration, Mediation and Negotiation.
